margin, noun. The edge of the page. Also what's left after costs. We look after both.
Better margins start with tidy books.
Fixed price bookkeeping for Adelaide's salons, cleaners, cafés and trades. Done in Xero, every week, by someone who runs a small business too.
If you've never paid for bookkeeping before, you're exactly who this is for.
For businesses that are too small for a finance team and too busy for Sunday night spreadsheets.
Salons and clinics
Terminal takings, product sales, a few staff, booking software that doesn't talk to anything.
Cleaners and trades
Lots of small jobs, invoices that need chasing, fuel and supplies on the business card.
Cafés and food
Daily takings, dozens of supplier bills, wages every week.
Sole traders
One account, one card, and a BAS that arrives every quarter whether you're ready or not.
Bookkeeping only. Your accountant keeps doing your tax, and gets a clean file to do it from.
What we do each month
Code and reconcile
Every bank and card transaction coded and matched in Xero, weekly on most plans. Mistakes get caught in days, not at tax time.
Capture receipts
Photograph a receipt, forget about it. Hubdoc reads it and we file it against the right bill.
Bills and invoices
Supplier bills entered, your invoices sent, overdue ones chased on your say so.
BAS-ready every quarter
Your file reconciled and tidy before the BAS is due, so your accountant or BAS agent lodges from clean numbers with nothing to fix.
Payroll processing
Pay runs and payslips processed on your instruction for up to five staff on the Full plan.
A monthly report you'll read
One page by the 10th: what came in, what went out, who owes you, what you owe, and anything worth knowing.
Most clients are reconciled and on the monthly rhythm inside 30 days.
How it works
A 20 minute call
You tell me how the books get done now and what you want to stop doing. I look at your Xero file if you have one.
A one page proposal
The plan that fits, the price, and an honest estimate for any catch up work. Nothing hidden in the monthly fee.
Setup and catch up
Bank feeds connected, Hubdoc running, your accountant introduced, backlog cleared. Quoted up front, billed on completion.
The monthly rhythm
Reconciled weekly, report by the 10th, file ready for your agent every quarter. You get your evenings back.
The price on the page is the price. No hourly surprises on the invoice.

Yes, I still do my own books. Tuesday mornings.
Hi, I'm Joshua.

I own and run Halo Glo, a clinic in Mawson Lakes. I reconcile its accounts, chase its invoices, run its payroll and feel every BAS deadline the same way you do.
I started Margin Books because the bookkeeping options for a business my size were either an accountant charging accountant rates for data entry, or doing it myself at 11pm. Neither is a good use of anyone's time.
I'm a University of Adelaide accounting graduate and I've worked in the external audit team at KPMG Adelaide. At the Adelaide University Tax Clinic I sat across the table from small business owners and individuals who couldn't afford an accountant and helped them sort out real problems with the ATO, supervised by qualified tax professionals. I'm Xero certified as an advisor and in payroll and migration. The work is done by me, in Adelaide, not a team overseas.
The questions people asked on the first calls.
Questions
Do you lodge my BAS?
Not yet. Margin Books provides bookkeeping services only. I get your file reconciled and BAS-ready each quarter and your registered BAS or tax agent reviews and lodges it. Tax coding follows your agent's advice or your instructions. BAS lodgement under a registered agent is coming, and existing clients will be told the moment it's available.
I'm not on Xero. Is that a problem?
No. Moving from MYOB, QuickBooks or a spreadsheet is part of onboarding and quoted up front. You pay Xero directly for the subscription, so the file is always yours.
What if my books are months behind?
That's most new clients. Catch up is a separate piece of work, estimated in hours before I start and billed on completion. The monthly plan begins once you're up to date.
What do you need from me?
Read only access to your bank feeds through Xero, receipts sent through the Hubdoc app, and answers to my questions within a few days. I never hold your internet banking login.
Are you insured?
Yes. Professional indemnity insurance with Vero. A certificate of currency is available on request.
